Though Hostel is not complete in minor decor such as furnishing, the sim has an air of elegance that is calming and inviting, creating a prime area for an SL MMORPG. There are tons of RPG forums and such that would probably intersted in bringing a character to Hostel which in turn would make more profit for the vendors there and bring more vendors to the city.
I am considering using the Registration API to drive traffic to the RPG sims, starting with an orientation area that will introduce the new character to Second Life and to the sim, preparing them there before they explore. While this is innovative, I am not sure how fluid this would work so I would like to put it to a vote.
Do you think Registration API can be effective in driving traffic to the RPG sims?
Yes = Yes, I think it would be effective.
No = No, it's not a good idea.
Sincerely,
Lindsay Druart

Hi, could you explain the project further?
Thank you.
Eliale Morigi
Sure. The plan would be to use our ad network to advertise in game for one and then purchase ad space on websites and forums that have a lot of gamers such as http://www.hardforums.com and http://www.anandtech.com as both of these website include a lot of MMORPG players.
Hostel is not World of Warcraft as it is much more interactive in that you would be in active roleplay but the sim itself has wonderful scenery and we have a long term plan in place city wide to keep the sim fresh with happening. This was the purpose that the sim back story is so vague.
Once we establish a good amount of movement through Hostel, we will add Dark City to the ranks. Dark City: Obsidian City already sees a good deal of traffic as it has been around awhile and feeds into the dark urban clan very well just like Toxia (my first RP home), but Hostel opens a door to something not seen as often in SL.
Hostel is not Gorean though some think it is because of the setting. It is Victorian Horror similar to Sleepy Hollow and such but the story is so dynamic that it could make for fun times. I want to see the sim grow into a stern population of players. I doubt we would add on sims to it but that can be considered down the line.
It sure is an interesting idea, but I wonder if it's good for overall game play in Hostel to bring unexperienced SL players directly into an RP sim.
I fear the ranks of "newbies" - to SL that is, not to RP, as you'd be targetting RP related sites - might ruin it for more serious RP'ers that reside on the sim.
Wouldn't it better to have new players arrive at a more general orientation island where the learn some of the basics before you offer them a TP or point them to Hostel?
Maybe split your orientation island in two or three "zones"? All the zones would offer the same basic orientation and skills, but they could offer additional info on the type of game the player may be looking for?
1. general zone with links to SL in general and LLRS sims specific
2. specific RP zone with buildings that resemble the theme and links to the actual RP sims
I was just pondering that ServMe and that is an excellent idea. The sim has a 7 day policy anyway on new avatars so you are right. Currently, the few residents of Hostel are far from nooberts and are hard core RPers so that would be a hard pill to swallow. It may be even viable to set aside a spot on one of the Port or Commerce sims to serve as the OI and then go from there. I haven't sat down and done the specific POA but I just had a thought and love suggestions.
I gotta say, I have a good group of shareholders in all facets of the L&L Brand and your input is most warranted. Keeps me from thinking too hard. :)
